Leading the Life You Want to Live

Leading the Life You Want to Live

Research estimates say only 10-20% of people are living the life they want. Only few people are ready to do hard work for achieving their goals. Many people easily give up on their dreams because of facing a few problems along their journey. And the people who are living the life they want to live are called successful because they didn’t give up on their dreams easily.

Don’t sit around and let life happen to you, instead live the life you want to live.

My prescription for leading the life you want to live, covers three main areas:

Healing Emotional Wounds

The first area is healing emotional wounds. When one is dealing with lingering emotional wounds they can creep into our every day life. They can lessen or diminish our self-esteem, our ability to create sound boundaries, our ability to realize our dreams and many other issues. As a metaphor, I like to think of healing emotional wounds as having a strong foundation to our house. If the foundation is not strong, it could create substantial issues with the overall integrity of the house.

Finding Fulfillment

The second area is in finding fulfillment. What is it you really want, what do you think is the major reason you were put on this earth. What truly lights you up, has you in great resonance vs. dissonance.

Overcoming Obstacles

The third area is overcoming obstacles that might get in your way to leading the life you want to live. What are these obstacles, how do you minimize them and or see them for what they really are.

More About Fulfillment

As a component of fulfillment in this blog I review uncovering your core values and provide you to a link to my website that will walk you through all the appropriate steps.

As a coach, one of the main purposes of my coaching is to help people live the life they want to live. There are many tools that we use to help a client live the life they want to live, including value assessment, visioning, and life purpose.

With visioning you get to determine who do you want to be in this life, where do you want to live, who do you want to be with, and what else is truly important to you in this life? Here we are looking for more the essence of these questions vs. the particulars. For example you might know you want to create your own business, but you’re not clear on what kind of business, that’s fine, you’ll get there.

The third main piece of finding fulfillment is, What is your life purpose? Or another way of putting this is, what gets you up in the morning? These are just some of the tools that we use to help people live the live they want to live and over the course of the next few months, I’ll be reviewing with you these various tools and how you can do these exercises on your own to gain further clarity on living the life you want to live.

Value Assessment

Let’s start first with value assessment. The main goal with this exercise is to determine what matters to you, who are you at your core now, not someone you want to be in 5 or 10 years. Once you’ve determined what your core values are, let’s say 10 values, we then want you to prioritize these values, based upon 1-10. And we really want to focus on the top three values, because at the end of the day if you’re not living your life in alignment with these top three values, things will be off for you.

Value Strings

Once you’ve determined your top three values, do a value string exercise. For example my number one value is adventure. But adventure means something specific to me vs. someone else, so we want to build a value string to personalize this value.

My value string for adventure looks something like this, ADVENTURE/Meeting new people/Exploring new places/Being creative in the way I go about my life/New food and drink experiences/History/Architecture/Art.

Once you’ve completed these value strings lets now see how your actions and experiences line up with your values/value strings.

Evaluate, Are You Living Your Life According to Your Values?

Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the least alignment and 10 being the greatest alignment. Now let’s say you scored a 6. And you seek to move this to a 10, what things would you need to do that would move you from a 6-10? Do this for as many values as you would like but most especially the top three values/value strings.

The goal with this exercise is what are my top values, how am I living my life in alignment with them and if I’m out of alignment what do I need to do to bring them into alignment?
